Being the general manager of arguably the largest, and clearly one of the most successful, adult clubs in the U.S.—Tootsie’s Cabaret in Miami—surely comes with a unique set of challenges. But there seems to be little question that Hal Bell meets those challenges on a regular basis. In fact, he recently bested an impressive list of nominees to take home the ED’s General Manager of the Year Award at the Annual Gentlemen’s Club Expo at the Hard Rock Vegas. We had the opportunity to ask Hal exactly what it takes to captain such a big ship, and also find out what music he enjoys both inside and outside the club. ED PUB: When and where did you first start working in the adult nightclub industry? What brought you into the industry initially, and what made you stay once you got there?

Hall Bell: I started in 1998 at Fantasy Cabaret in Houston, Texas. From a young age, I have always considered myself a night owl. I love the nightlife. Once I got my feet wet and saw the opportunity this industry provides, I knew I was in for the long haul.

ED PUB: When did you start at Tootsies? To what do you attribute the club’s success to (the club is nominated for this year’s overall club of the year award)? What role do you feel you’ve played in Tootsie’s undeniable success?

HB: I started at Tootsie’s in the summer of 2011. The success of this club comes down to a great “goal-oriented” team that strives to be the absolute best at what we do. My role is to always maintain a positive attitude while paying attention to every detail. I keep myself involved with every aspect of the club and lead by example.

ED PUB: How hard is it to manage what is likely the largest and arguably most successful adult club in the nation, if not the world? What are some of the unique challenges to having such a large club with so many entertainers and staff members?

HB: I would say the most challenging thing to manage is the many personalities at the club. I have had the privilege of working at many different clubs that highlight numerous demographics as well as genres. It really prepared me to handle the size of our room. I work on this everyday and do my best to not only be a good listener but communicator as well.

ED PUB: What music do you like to hear at the club, and what kind of music do you listen to in your spare time?

HB: Booty music (just kidding!). Tootsie’s is an open format. We play to our guests. I prefer high-energy popular music. That seems to keep our guests happy and enjoying the party atmosphere we provide them. In my spare time, I like everything from old blue eyes (Sinatra) to Drake, Metallica and everything in-between.

ED PUB: If you could see any concert or lineup of artists, living or deceased, who would it be?

HB: Biggie, Tupac, Wu Tang with ODB. That would be the ultimate show.
